About ERC

The ERC is PUK’s English Reading Club. The basic idea is to give support and encouragement to students from our 3 faculties who are interested in reading extensively in English. We meet twice a month for 45-60 minutes, usually just doing some reading and talking about the books we have read.

Students are encouraged to do as much reading as they can between ERC meetings, but it isn’t essential. Likewise, they’re encouraged to speak in English at the meetings, but Japanese is OK, too.

Students’ English reading is supported by the large collection of books in our library, both graded readers and native English-speaking children’s books such as the Oxford Reading Tree.
